Italian painter (ca. 1755-1821) who specialised in landscape painting and drawing ancient monuments. He followed Thomas Bruce, lord of Elgin, in Athens and participated in the removal of the Parthenon sculptures as well as other antiquities and their transfer to Great Britain.
